Teaching/Public Education Experience:

I began teaching in 1985 for Darrouzett ISD.  For three years, I was the JH and HS Math teacher, Girls Athletic Director (coaching Basketball, Track, & Tennis), UIL academic coach for Number Sense, Mathematics, and Calculator, Cheerleader sponsor, and the substitute bus driver.

When my husband took a job in Canadian, I was hired by Canadian ISD.  For another 3 years, I was the Middle School Math teacher, UIL academic coach for Number Sense, Mathematics, and Calculator, and the Cheerleader sponsor.  I served on the District Site Base Committee, Technology Committee, and Math Committee-upon which I was chairman.

While at Canadian, Wheeler ISD (my alma mater) contacted me concerning a Math teaching position.  With the enticement of getting to teach with my parents and the opportunity to teach under the wonderful principal, Mr. Thomas R Helton, I jumped at the chance.  I taught for Wheeler ISD for 10 years.  Among my positions there, I taught 6th Math, 7th Math, 8th Math, 8th Algebra I for HS credit, HS Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trig, Pre-Calc, Calculus, and Math Models.  I was UIL academic coach for Number Sense, Mathematics, and Calculator.  I was Junior Class Sponsor (Jr/Sr Banquet) and Cheerleader sponsor.  I served on the District Site Base Committee, and Technology Committee.

After Wheeler, Canadian ISD (with a State DEC audit looming) needed a PEIMS coordinator. I worked for 1 year in the Superintendent office as PEIMS coordinator. However, this job was administrative and isolated in the Superintendant building.  It didn’t include teaching or being around students to watch them learn and see the "light-bulbs" turn on…

Kelton ISD advertised for an Elementary PE/Health teacher.  I applied and was hired.  Kelton at the time only went through 5th grade.  In my interview, Mr. Watson, our Superintendent, was hoping to have 37 students enrolled for the upcoming year and was hoping the school could survive until at least 2007 for the 100 year reunion.  WOW! Going on 9 years later, much has changed!  Kelton ISD now goes through all grades PK-12th.

As much as the school has grown and changed over the years, so have my services.  My PE/Health teaching position expanded to include ESL Coordinator, TAKS tutorials in Math/Reading/Social Studies/Science, JH Girls’ & Boys’ Cross Country/Basketball/Track coach, SHAC Coordinator, UIL Coordinator, Migrant Coordinator, PEIMS/Student Services Coordinator, Gradebook & Parent Portal Coordinator, and substitute bus driver.  Then, as student enrollment increased, I continued to be ESL Coordinator, Migrant Coordinator, UIL Coordinator, PEIMS/Student Services Coordinator, TxEIS, Gradebook & Parent Portal Coordinator and occasional bus driver, BUT was forced to trade the PE/Health teacher, Coaching, & SHAC Coordinator services for teaching JH Social Studies.

Beginning with 2011-12, I no longer have my JH Social Studies classes.  In their place, I have added the services of Accounts Payable (including TRS Insurance), Child Nutrition (TX-UNPS), and assistant to Mr. Watson, Superintendent.  I am still the ESL Coordinator, Migrant Coordinator, UIL Coordinator, PEIMS/Student Services Coordinator, TxEIS, Gradebook & Parent Portal Coordinator and occasional bus driver.  BUT I AM STILL AROUND THE STUDENTS AND GET TO OBSERVE THEM LEARNING AND I STILL GET TO SEE THE "LIGHTBULBS" TURN ON!  Kelton ISD continues to have excellent "crops" of students with ethics, morals, character, and values!
