STATE VASE COMPETITION SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

Justin Baker, Chelsie Jasper, Makena Porter, and Nolan Spruell are members of a very elite and distinguished group of young artists. All four students advanced to STATE in Art. The event was held at James Madison High School in San Antonio Texas. Justin, Chelsie, Makena, and Nolan are among the top 6.6% in the whole state of Texas. This is Justin Baker's 2nd time to attend State Vase.
Makena and Chelsie are received a Superior Rating (IV) awarding them a STATE VASE medallion. Statewide more than 32,000 students participated in the 20 regional VASE events. There were 2,129 state qualifiers competing. The top 8% received a Superior Rating (IV).
Students are not interviewed at the State Event. However panels of jurors evaluate each state entry to determine the degree that each work demonstrates originality of concept, technical expertise, understanding of the TEKS, and the interpretation of the student's stated intent. The state jury panel evaluates qualified artwork using a numeric rating system based on an established state rubric. Artworks receiving a Superior Rating (IV) are awarded the State VASE medallion.
The mission of the TAEA Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) is to recognize exemplary student achievement in the Visual Arts by providing art students and programs a standard of excellence in which to achieve.
Makena and Nolan are freshman Art I students. Chelsie Jasper is a senior Art I student and Justin Baker is a senior Art II student. Congratulation Justin, Chelsie, Makena, and Nolan for being among the best in TEXAS!
